New Signing: David Oku

Surreal illustrations that just make sense

Introducing the newest addition to The Different Folk’s roster of contemporary illustrators: the extremely talented, David Oku.

Drawing inspiration from travel, culture and music, David creates psychedelic visuals that blend simplistic colour combinations with intricate design compositions.
As a child, David would scribble on anything he could get his hands on—a curiosity that has stayed with him throughout his career as an illustrator, graphic designer and animator. One glance at his portfolio and you’ll see everything from web templates to advertorials, book covers to magazines, branding to packaging.
But it was during his time at the London College of Communication that David gained a true appreciation for creative exploration. Collaborating with such a diverse group of people meant he left university with a better idea of the artist he wanted to become and the niche he wanted to carve out for himself. Today, he describes his illustration style as surreal, yet humorous.
And it’s not just his creativity that has taken him far and wide. Born in Dortmund, raised between Lagos and Milan, David is our resident globetrotter. Now settled in London, he’s on hand to visualise your next project, whether it be a detailed illustration or a hand-lettered piece.
We can’t wait to see what weirdly wonderful creations David has in store. If you’d like to discuss a commission, we’re all ears.
